Landscape architects, civil engineers and developers in many areas are faced with a challenge. Natural topsoil, which may have taken thousands of years to build up, has been stripped away through urban development, mining or erosion. Once excavated and stockpiled, the remaining soil often no longer has the structural foundation necessary for good plant growth. Frequently, sand is a necessary amendment to help rebuild vital soil structure. The economics of adding sand, however, can be a significant barrier due to availability and logistics.
