This half-day training will go over topics pertinent to the job performance of a Community Involvement Coordinator (CIC) and will serve as a refresher course for seasoned CICs. It covers a breadth of topics including Superfund Redevelopment, best practices for a CIC in an emergency response, and general community involvement tools and techniques. The first half of the training will focus on training CICs on the Superfund redevelopment process through a purview of best practices and case studies and a strategic planning session.

The second half of the training will focus on general community involvement topics including best practices learned from emergency responses in 2017 and an overview of community involvement resources and techniques for newer CICs. The general overview will include breakout sessions on technical assistance that EPA can provide to communities, general tools and techniques for community engagement, and regional best practices among other topics.

By taking this course, a CIC will:

• Learn or review the general practices for community engagement as practiced by the Superfund program at the EPA;
• Describe the steps for engaging communities in redevelopment at Superfund sites;
• Identify the resources within EPA to bring technical assistance to communities engaged in the Superfund process.

This course is intended for all levels of community involvement practitioners and recommended for anyone who is interested in communication, presentation tools, Superfund redevelopment, and emergency response.
