EPA and CSX will host a joint training session for EPA/USCG/State On-Scene Coordinators (OSCs). The training will focus on government integration into Unified Command, typical railroad operational organization, and rail response activities such as car identification, damage assessment, material transfer, plugging, and venting. Lessons are provided by both classroom instruction and hands-on sessions with real train equipment. The training will also include a joint derailment exercise involving CSX’s mock derailment. The training course will be led by CSX hazardous materials managers and Region 4 OSCs. The training and exercise will include Level A and Level B entries. (SCBA masks and medical authorization are required to participate in entries.) Please see the Draft Agenda attached at the bottom of the Details and Registration page.
NOTE: A medical evaluation in accordance with the Respiratory Protection Standard, 29 CFR 1910.134 is necessary if the student wishes to participate in the hands-on exercise portion of this course. There are opportunities during the exercise for those personnel who are not authorized to wear respiratory protection, and the class is not limited to only those with such clearance. Each student must bring with them a copy of their medical certificate that clearly states that a medical evaluation has been completed and that the student is medically able to wear respiratory protection equipment.
TUITION: This course is limited to personnel from EPA, other Federal agencies, Tribes, and State and Local Government, and is free of charge for them. Please note that Federal, State, and Tribal personnel will be given priority. Personnel not directly employed by a government agency (e.g. private industry or contractor) cannot be accepted into this course.
