EPA Region 4 2014 Brownfields Grantee Workshop
Hosted by EPA Region 4

This annual Brownfield Grantees Workshop is open to our newly awarded 2014 Brownfield grant recipients. Consultants and communities interested in learning more about the Brownfields program will have the opportunity to participate in the conference, as space allows. The workshop is oriented toward ensuring that the newly awarded grantees know how to manage and make the most of their EPA grant. It is also to encourage the development of a sustainable Brownfields assessment, cleanup and revitalization program through the use of extensive networking with more experienced grantees. Newly awarded grantees are encouraged to bring their community Brownfields champion and/or city council member to learn more about how the opportunities revitalizing Brownfields can create in their community. They may also bring their consultant, if selected, but it is not required. Travel funds are covered by the grant funds. Space is limited to 225 people.

Those communities who have not yet applied or who have not yet been successful in their application to the Brownfields program are also welcome to come and learn more about Brownfield grants. For this audience, EPA is hosting two grant writing success opportunities: Tuesday morning (Oct 7th – 8:30-Noon), EPA will host a detailed presentation of the FY15 grant guidelines. This will also be hosted as a live webinar for those who cannot attend in person. On Wednesday (Oct 8th – Noon-1:30), there will be a working grant review one-on-one session for those who have previously applied, but been unsuccessful in securing a grant. This will be a one-on-one session with professional grant writers and EPA grant reviewers. These sessions require advanced planning so please sign up for that session on the attached registration form specifically.

Additionally, EPA is opening this workshop to Brownfield consultants, whether they have an existing grantee or not. This will provide the attendees a broader exposure to the Brownfields program, community, EPA, States and other peers. However, due to space constraints and the need to prioritize space for community members and new grantees, it is requested that no more than one or two members of the same firm participate and attendance is not confirmed until EPA specifically responds to your registration. For that reason, we ask that you distinguish whether you are attending at the request of a grantee. For those consultants who wish to support the Wednesday grant application review one-on-one sessions, please know that consultant selection will be based on the response to the session by prior applicants, and priority given to those consultants with known prior grant writing success.
OPPORTUNITIES – please complete the attached registration form to participate in the following activities and return to vanpelt.marybeth@epa.gov:

Attending the Wednesday noontime session (Noon – 1:30 pm) for prior unsuccessful applicants. This session will provide one-on-one recommendations to strengthen your specific community proposal by professional grant writers and EPA reviewers in advance of the FY15 grant cycle. You will need to bring three (3) copies of your proposal with you to the workshop.
