Optimizing Projects and Processes via Value Management
VM-401
Hosted by Northwest Environmental Training Center

Over this two-day course, participants will learn the fundamentals of The SAVE International® value management (VM) methodology and study process. Topics covered include: the pre-study activities that set up productive workshops, identifying project performance criteria and workshop objectives, making the most useful information available and how function analysis sets VM apart from other methodologies, such as six-sigma and lean manufacturing.

Public agencies today are facing historic challenges related to budget shortfalls, management challenges, and crumbling infrastructure. While infrastructure is becoming a priority, project cost and management efficiency are under scrutiny like never before. Using funds in the most prudent way requires getting the best value possible through a sustainable approach that looks at the life of the project—not just its initial cost. When used properly, the SAVE International® value methodology does just this. However, many agencies fail to reap the potential benefits because of a lack of understanding of the methodology and process.

In addition, upcoming changes to *OMB Circular A-131 strengthen the role of VA in federal government (and federally funded) projects. A-131 will further emphasize function-based analysis, making it more important than ever for agencies and consultants to understand the value methodology.

*(OMB is the Office of Management & Budget, the White House office responsible for devising and submitting the president's annual budget proposal to Congress)
