This workshop covers the science and best practices for implementing monitored natural attenuation as a remediation strategy at contaminated sites. The course modules cover both destructive and non-destructive natural attenuation processes with an emphasis on the biodegradation of petroleum hydrocarbons, fuel oxygenates, and chlorinated hydrocarbons in soil and groundwater. Participants will gain an understanding of the three lines of evidence of natural attenuation and how to interpret these data to improve remediation performance. A quick overview of EPA's BIOSCREEN and BIOCHLOR models will also be provided.
