Event Name: Groundwater/Surface Water Interactions and Evaluating Impacts of Contaminated Groundwater Discharges: Tools, Ecological Risk, and Case Studies
Event Description:

This two-day course will provide a comprehensive overview of how to conceptualize, investigate, and evaluate groundwater/surface water interactions to assess the impacts of contaminated groundwater discharges to surface water bodies. The advantages and disadvantages of applicable hydrogeological characterization tools will be discussed as will the potential need for targeted high-resolution sampling in order to better understand the complexities of the groundwater/surface water systems. Presentations of relevant case studies will demonstrate how simple, cost-effective monitoring approaches can improve site-specific conceptual models, identify the greatest areas of concern, and support shareholder decisions to effectively evaluate the transition zones and implement remedial actions.
