Beneficial Use of Industrial Materials Summit

2008 Beneficial Use of Industrial Materials Summit: A forum for exchange of ideas and information among regulators, industry, and other stakeholders. Sessions are designed to increase the understanding of beneficial use of industrial materials, associated benefits, and regulatory programs; share information and experiences; assess opportunities to begin or expand use of another industry’s byproducts; and learn of new research, studies, and initiatives.

General Topics: Reuse and recycling of industrial materials (coal combustion products, foundry sands, construction & demolition materials, etc.) in practical applications such as building construction, transportation construction, and agriculture. Sessions will present important decision-making tools and resources, issues affecting state environmental programs and regulatory decisions, and ways to address barriers to increasing beneficial use.

Other topics include:
  • Strategies for optimizing the use of materials
  • A framework for assessing risk of the beneficial use of industrial materials
  • Approaches for ensuring performance
  • How industrial materials recycling reduces greenhouse gas emissions
  • Case studies of industrial materials recycling in various applications
  • Policy implementation in local government
  • Material applications in mining and minerals processing, oil and gas, and alternative fuels
