Virtual Uniform Federal Policy for Quality Assurance Project Plans - Chemists

Overview:

The ERTP virtual Uniform Federal Policy for Quality Assurance Project Plans (vUFP-QAPP) course is a 4-hour virtual classroom course designed to gain participant buy-in regarding the need for QAPPs, change behaviors, and provide technical guidance regarding the review and use of the UFP-QAPP format for U.S. EPA environmental information (not just lab data) gathering activities.  The course will be delivered in one of two 4-hour versions.  The first version, UFP-QAPP PM, targets aspects of the UFP-QAPP that project managers/decision makers need to focus on.  The second version, UFP-QAPP CH, targets aspects that chemists and other technical support specialists need to focus on.  The courses teach decision makers and technical support personnel what should go into UFP-QAPPs, i.e. how to manage and review them, NOT how to write them.

Target Audience:

EPA Project Managers, project planners, decision makers, chemists, lab procurement specialists, technical auditors, information validators, information assessors, and QA Managers; basically, anyone involved in any phase of environmental information (not just lab data) gathering, analysis, validation, interpretation, and decision making.

Course Objectives:

UFP-QAPP CH

  • Understand that you must have QAPPs for your environmental investigations, and learn why you will want them
  • Gain understanding of elements of a UFP-QAPP that focus on:
    • How the project planning process culminates in Data Quality Objectives (DQO) and a set of project decisions that naturally point to the information needed to make the decisions.
    • Fully defining and describing all field and laboratory activities, procedures, requirements, and quality control (QC) criteria so that all information gathered is defensible, meets the DQOs and supports project decision-making
    • Describing requirements for technical audits and information validation to ensure all information gathered is of known and acceptable quality
    • Defining the information usability assessment process for assessing whether the information gathered meets the DQOs and enables project managers to make project decisions with acceptable limits on decision errors.
  • Learn what to look for in these elements to make sure your UFP-QAPP will achieve the objectives of the investigation.
