General Information
Event Name: Getting to Remedy Selection More Quickly: Using a Conceptual Site Model to Understand Sediment Site Conditions, Characterize Contamination, and Reduce Uncertainties
Hosted By: U.S. EPA
OSRTI
Event Description:

THIS COURSE IS NOT OPEN TO CONTRACTORS OR PRIVATE INDUSTRY PARTICIPANTS.  ONLY U.S. EPA, OTHER FEDERAL, AND STATE AGENCY REGISTRANTS WILL BE ADMITTED.

The Office of Superfund Remediation and Technology Innovation (OSRTI) Sediments Team and staff from United States Army Corp of Engineers (USACE) Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) are developing a training course on characterizing contaminated sediment sites. The course is 2 ½ days and covers the most critical subject areas in sediment site characterization and remedial alternatives analysis. This technical course will also provide detailed information in several areas such as: evaluating the erodability of sediment; predicting the effectiveness of dredging, capping and MNR; designing a sampling plan to estimate a sediment SWAC; understanding bioavailability effects on toxicity and bioaccumulation; and new tools to use in characterizing sites. Instructors will be from OSRTI, ERDC, ORD, academia, and consulting companies. We plan to have RPMs present relevant case studies. Participation will be limited to staff from EPA, state regulatory agencies, and other federal agencies that are responsible for managing contaminated sediment sites. There may be an EPA-only session on current as well as potentially needed new policies. The course will be structured to allow ample time for questions and will encourage dialogue between participants and with the instructors.
